Mahalingeswarar Temple History

Mahalingeswaraswamy Temple situated in Thiruvidaimarudur is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the seven popular temples of Lord Shiva. The temple represents the Lord in the form of Lingam known as Jothimayalingam and goddess Parvathi as Pirguchuntarakujambigai. This temple is a huge construction exhibiting four gateways or gopurams. This temple also is known as madhyarjuna Kshetram. This temple was established in the 9th century (in Chola Dynasty).
