Rameswaram Temple History in English

Rameswaram Temple is one of the sacred Char Dham of Hindu religion. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ramanathaswamy (Lord Shiva).  The temple deity of the Ramanathaswamy Temple is in the form of Lingam. The temple shows two Lingams, the Ramalingam made out of sand by goddess Sita and the Vishwalingam which is brought from the Kailash by Lord Hanuman. The Ramalingam is the main deity of the temple.

The temple is one of the twelve Jyothirlingams. The Ramanathaswamy temple is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams. This is a famous historical pilgrimage destination.
