Lohagad is been derived from Marathi, which means \u201cLoha – iron\u201d, \u201cGad \u2013 Fort\u201d, it was built in 12th<\/sup> century by the Raja Bhoj. \u00a0Lohagad fort is located in Lonavala which is at a distance of 10 km, the Lohagad is the fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji. It was constructed in 18th<\/sup>century, the Lohagad occupies the region of Sahyadri range of mountains. The Lohagad fort divides the two rivers basins which are known as Indrayani and Pavna rivers.<\/p>\n

The proper information of lohagad occupation is not clearly known , but the ancient stories says that the lohagad fort belongs to the periods of Satavahanas , Chalukyas , Rashtrakutas , Yadavas , Bahamanis , Nizamas , Mughals\u00a0 and Marathas . The lohagad fort was under the mughal emperors\u00a0 for a period of session .<\/p>\n

In 1648 CE Chatrapati Shivaji recaptured lohagad fort from the Mughals , present it is been preserved and protected by the government of India . The rise of the lohagad is about 1033 meters above\u00a0 the sea level . the lohagad also shows small water\u00a0 fall near the foot hill.<\/p>\n
