The Nameri National Park is situated in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in the district of Sonitpur of Assam. In the year 1985, the Nameri National Park was declared as a wildlife sanctuary. The total area of Nameri National Park is about 200 square kilometres and in the year of 1999 the Pakhuri – Nameri was declared as an interstate tiger reserve under the Project Tiger.<\/p>\n

This Park shows the richest population plants and animal species. This Park is composed of the rich population of elephants, 370 bird species, white-winged wood duck.This Park also exhibits a diversified floral population which shows a variety of plant species. This Park is the second Tiger reserve of Assam, also the Nameri National Park shows herds of elephants and 30 varieties of mammalian species.<\/p>\n

The floral wealth of the park is extremely diverse and a significant part of its\u00a0ecosystem.\u00a0Some of the commonly found tree species include Bombax ceiba, Dalbergia sissoo, Sterculia villosa, Trewia nudiflora, Zizyphus jujuba, Litsaea polyantha, etc. Among the non-aquatic grassland species, the prominent are Phragmites karka, Arundo donax, Imperata cylindrical and Saccharum.<\/p>\n
