Captain Baba Harbhajan Singh was an Indian Army Soldier and is the temple in Sikkim. He is admired as the \u2018Hero of Nathula\u2019 by soldiers of the Indian Army. He was accorded the status of saint by believers who refer to him as the “Baba” (saintly father). Many of his faithful – chiefly Indian army personnel posted in and around the Nathu La and the Sino-Indian border between the state of Sikkim and Chinese Tibet – have come to believe his spirit protects every soldier in the inhospitable high-altitude terrain of the Eastern Himalayas. As with most saints, the Baba is believed to grant favors to those who revere and worship him. He is said to be protecting the country even after death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life And Military Career:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Baba Harbhajan Singh was born in the Sikh Family on 30 August 1946 in the village of Sadhana which is now in Pakistan. He completed his education and was enlisted as a soldier in Amritsar and joined the Punjab Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Death And Legend:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Harbhajan Singh was a Sentry of Punjab Regiment and was\nposted here as a patrol force. In October 1968 he disappeared while escorting\nmules carrying provisions, he fell into the stream and drowned. He remains were\nfound after a 3-day search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During flag meetings between India and China at Nathu La,\nthe Chinese set a chair aside to honor him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Out of sheer belief that his spirit is still around, he has been promoted to the rank of honorary Captain. Every year during his annual leave, Harbhajan is known to visit his hometown in Punjab even today although he is well past his retirement age. Two soldiers actually accompany his uniform in a jeep up to Siliguri then on a train to his hometown.
