Jallianwala Bagh<\/strong> Massacre<\/strong> Overview, History, Timings, Entry Fee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre is also known as the Massacre of Amritsar. This Amritsar Massacre took place in Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, on 13th<\/sup> April 1919. The incident is the major odious political crimes by the Britishers during the 12th<\/sup> century. The public garden in the Bagh is spread over 7 acres with the fencing covering all the sides of the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Jallianwala Bagh<\/strong> History<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As World War I begins there had been civil unrest and resentment in the country, especially in the states of Punjab and West Bengal. This is done because of the terrible war repercussions. This includes heavy taxation, huge number of dead and wounded soldiers and inflation. This results in the formation of the Rowlatt Committee in 1919. This commission has a legislative act that allowed some of the political cases without the jury and imprisoned the suspects without any proofs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of the Rowlatt Act, Mahatma Gandhi came with the revolution. This took demonstrations at the residence of Amritsar Deputy Commissioner to release 2 Indian Independence Movement Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satya Pal. For this, there was a violent protest the resulted in burning the town hall and the railway station. It resulted in many deaths which also included the deaths of European government officials and also the civilians. For this, the city of Amritsar and also parts of Punjab faced curfew, where the government of Punjab decided to restrict public gatherings and prohibited assembling of more people gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jallianwala Bagh Tragedy on 13th<\/sup>\nApril 1919<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

13th<\/sup> April 1919 is regarded as the beginning of New Year for Sikhs and celebrated as Baisakhi Festival all over Punjab. People gather to Punjab to attend this auspicious day to celebrate the festival with their family and the loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of the Baisakhi Festival, Colonel Reginald Dyer announced the implementation of curfew around Amritsar.  At about 12:40 PM, Colonel Dyer received a secret info about the meeting taking place at Jallianwala Bagh at 4:30 PM for the protest. By afternoon the number of people gathered at the place including the devotees at Harmandir Sahib. As the walls of the place are about 10 feet high and it has a very narrow entrance and only one exit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dyer with his army surrounded the place and he ordered to fire the crowd who gathered there. On the order of his general, the troop started to fire very ruthless on the uninformed crowd. The firing is done for about 10 minutes and ended up with lots of dead bodies. Officially British informed that 379 people were dead and 120 people were dead by jumping into the well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The place will be open from 6:30 AM to\n7:00 PM and the Gallery will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM<\/p>\n\n\n\n
