This place is the gateway for visiting Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The place is well-connected to the rest of the country through water and air. The cheapest way to reach is through water but it takes 3-4 days to reach the place. The fastest way to reach the place is air which takes 2-3 hours from the mainland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cellular Jail Andaman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cellular Jail is the dark chronicle of British rule in India. The Jail is also referred to as the Kala Pani where Kala means Death or Time and Pani means Water in Sanskrit. Britishers imprisoned the political leaders of India who are actively participating in the freedom struggle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jail at present is the public view as National Memorial and the museum shows how India\u2019s struggle for freedom over the years. The jail is designed with seven straight wings which are connected to the tower. The bricks were brought from Burma for construction purpose. The jail has the tower as the intersection point of the 7 wings that serves as the watchpoint for guards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wings are the 3-stored buildings that are constructed in such a way that the cell in the row would not communicate with the next cell or the front cell prisoners. The jail houses a total of 693 cells with dimensions of 4.5m*2.7m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Cellular<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Years ago the building was badly damaged and only 3 wings and the tower remained out of 7 wings. In the year 1969, the cellular jail is converted into the National Memorial which houses several galleries that include Exhibition Gallery and Freedom fighters photos on the ground floor and Netaji Gallery and Art gallery on the 1st<\/sup> floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wandoor is a small village at the south tip of South\nAndaman. The place is known as the gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine\nNational Park. The place offers some of the beaches and the accommodation\noptions for relaxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jolly Buoy is the place in Wandoor where you can see the blue, red, sponge corals in the sea along with the marine life especially the Zebra Fish. One can also find Red Island here. Both islands remain open for alternate 6 months to tourists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both places can be visited in a single day and no need for night stay. The corals at the Jolly Buoy are simply amazing. Littering, throwing food, bottles, papers are strictly prohibited as the Corals grow 1inch per every 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chatham Saw Mill is one of the attractions in the Port Blair of Andaman\nand Nicobar Island. The Mill was constructed in 1883 by Colonial Regime. The\ntimber is the main source obtained as the raw material from the dense forest of\nthe Chatham Island. The mill is destroyed by the Japanese during World War II\nand was rebirth soon after the people started settling down in the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mill processes various types of wood like Marble, Satin, and Padauk. The Museum is set within the Mill and has a good collection of wood-based work and carvings. The museum also houses the photographs that witness the island during the world war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samudrika Marine Museum is located in Port Blair, and is also known as Fisheries Museum. This includes a small aquarium that consists of the collection of shells, corals, and fishes. This museum is run by the Indian Navy and stores 5 galleries like geography, history, marine life and anthropology of the island. In front of the Museum, one can see the skeleton of the baby blue whale that was found on the shores of Andaman Beach. This whole Museum was a pride of the Indian Navy Projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jolly Buoy Island is the most famous attractions of Andaman for its underwater corals and the pristine clear beach. It is located in the Mahatma Gandhi National Park. One can also find the Red Skin Island in the same route as Jolly Island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Island is strictly a No Plastic Zone and one should hand over their plastic items at Wandoor Beach. There are some security deposits where your items are to be deposited and for each item of plastic, they charge Rs 100 and should be collected in the return to the Wandoor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Blair to the Island the distance is nearly 19 KM and can be reached by the boat which started from 9:00 AM every day. This Island will be opened only in a particular season so plan accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mount Harriet is famous for its National Park which is located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The park was started in the year 1969 in 4.62 sq KM. The park is named out of respect to Harriet C. Some of the floral includes 1134 plants and tree species like\nEndospermum Chinensis, Dipterocarpus Grandiflorus, Araucaria Columnaris and\nmany more and some of the famous faunal species are Saltwater Crocodiles,\nturtles, Andaman Wild Pigs and Robber Crabs.
