This temple is located on the hill-top. The hill\nis known for its dense forest and the variety of trees that are filled with\nfruits. The stories say that the Tamil poetess Avvaiyar was given eyes of Lord\nMurugan at this hill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple is said to be one of the 6 Arupadaiveedu, the place where Lord Murugan encountered the importance of his life events. The temple is dedicated to Lord Sundareswarar. The temple was constructed by the King Thirumalai Nayakar between 1628 to 1635. This Mandapam is also known as the Vasantha Mandapam or the Puthu Mandapam. As the summer season homestead Goddess and the Lord, the corridor is changed into the beginning. The temple here is dedicated to Lord Murugan and is worshipped as Arupadaiveeduand was built in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> century during the Pandyan Reign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple is carved out of a rock with separate temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesh, Goddess Durga, and many other prominent Hindu idols. The main temple is dedicated to Lord\nShiva and Goddess Parvati in the form of Parangirinathar and Aavudai Nayaki. The temple\nis 2 KM from Meenakshi Sundareswara Temple. The temple has a man-made pond in\nthe middle. This pond receives the water from River Vaigai. The pond is\nsurrounded by the granite steps on all the 4 sides with the Vigneswara Temple\nin the middle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam was built by Thirumalai Nayak in 1645 AD. It is the must-visit temple for tourists on their visit to Madurai. In the processes of building Thirumalai Nayak Palace, the sand was dug from the pond from this temple. During the digging process, Lord Ganesh idol was found from the earth.
