Jyotiba Temple History
Jyotiba temple is one of the Jyotirling, situated at a height of 3124 feet above sea level, and is dedicated to Jyotiba (Dattatreya). The temple is 18 km north-west of Kolhapur. Jyotiba Temple is a holy site of Hinduism near Wadi Ratnagiri in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. The deity of the temple is known by the Jyotiba and is held by the locals to be an incarnation of three gods: Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesha, and Jamadagni.
Jyotiba Temple Architecture
The temple was built in 3 different stages. The original temple was built by Navji Saya. The main temple which is now viewed is built by Ranoji Shinde. The 3rd part is built before the 2nd part is built. The 2nd part was built by Daulatrao Shinde in 1808.
The whole temple has an ancient view inside. Few changes have been made to make the temple more pilgrim friendly. The domes of the temple are painted in shades of Yellow and the main body and walls are still in the stone they were made of.
