Nohkalikai Falls Cherrapunjee Overview, Story, Timings, Best time to Visit
Nohkalikai Falls is located in Cherrapunjee. The fall is regarded as the 4th highest waterfalls in the world. The fall is the main and famous attraction of the visitors to Cherrapunjee. The water flows from 1,100 Feet high. The travel to the falls is through an elevated plateau that leads to the rock face and witnesses the viewpoint of the ultramarine pool.
Tourists are advised to visit in monsoon to enjoy the amazing view of the falls. There are many viewing gallery called stairs which takedown to various other viewing points.
Tales behind the Waterfalls
The Waterfall has the disconsolate story associated. Noh Ka Likai means ‘The Leap of Likai’. The woman married at a young age and had a daughter as his husband expired the woman was remarried. The second husband didn’t like the daughter of his wife. Once when the lady went out for work the man killed his step-daughter and started cooking her flush. The lady after returning home from work was surprised to see that her husband cooking. Both had their meals. The lady later got to know that the meals they ate were the flush of her daughter as she discovered her daughters’ fingers in the basket. Out of grief and contrition, the lady ran to the nearby cliff and threw her in the waterfall. From then the fall is known as Nohkalikai Waterfall.
Best Time to Visit
October to January for the best view of the fall and
March to May for the pleasant view of brims with blue water.
