As per the Legend, Sage Kavera who lived in Brahma Giri was childless so he prayed Lord Brahma. Pleased Brahma blessed him with his Manasaputri Lopamudra to the Sage. Lopamudra was blessed to Lord Brahma by Lord Vishnu.
Sage Agasthya on his return from the Himalayas reached Brahma Giri Ashram. Sage on Seeing Cauvery expressed his wish to Marry her. Sri Cauvery laid a condition that he will not leave her alone even for a moment. Sage agreed and married Cauvery.
Sage Agasthya converted Cauvery as water and filled in his Kamandalu. He instructed his disciples to look after Cauvery as he will be back after taking bath at River Kanika. Cauvery waited long for Sage to return from his bath. Angered Cauvery jumped from the Kamandalu into a pond near Brahmakundige. Disciples pleaded her not to move away, she disappeared from the Brahmakundige and Joined with Rivers Kanika and Sujyothi at Bhagamandala. While on her way to Bhagamandala, Nagas pleaded her not to leave this place. She blessed Nagas at Nagatirtha and continued her journey to Bhagamandala. Bhagamandala is a Sangama Kshetra.
