Shirdi the Land of Sai Baba is a small village in Kopargam of Ahmadnagar District of Maharashtra, India. It is located at 238 KM from Mumbai. At the age of 16 years old Baba is first seen in Shirdi and stayed in Shirdi for 3 years and disappeared for a year and return back permanently around 1858. Baba with a young beard and with sparkling eyes took shelter in Masjid, in the village. As of this incidence history’s say that baba is born around 1838.
Nobody knew from where Baba have come who hardly spoke a word and stayed here. Sai Baba didn’t reveal his caste or religion. It is unclear if he is Hindu or Muslim. His teachings combine both Hinduism and Islam. The place he stayed is a Mosque for which he gave a Hindu name Dwarakamai. The sayings of Baba “Allah Malik” means God is King and “Sabka Malik Ek” means everyone’s master is one are associated with both Hinduism and Islam. He also used to say “Look at me and I shall look to you” and “Allah Tera Bhala Karega”.
The word Sai means the religious mendicant but can also mean God. The name is given by Mhalsapati the priest of Khandoba Temple in Shirdi. Sai Baba of Shirdi is especially worshipped in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Maharashtra and Gujarat.The temples of Sai Baba are all over the country and also spread to Caribbean,Nepal, Canada, United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, France, Singapore and Germany.
The temple of Sai Baba in Shirdi is maintained by the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust. The Sai Baba statue and the Samadhi are engraved out of Italian Marble and can be seen with the royal cloth, adorned with the golden crown and fresh flower garlands. The interior and exterior of the temple is made of old stone bricks and the cone shaped tomb, covered with gold. At the last stage of Sai Baba people started to offer Aarthi’s for 4 times a day and are now held daily at the place of Baba MahaSamadhi Mandir.
The Aarthis are named as follows:
- Kakad Aarthi – offered in the early morning at 4:30
- Madhyan Aarthi – offered at afternoons at 12:00
- Dhup Aarthi – offered at evenings at 6:30
- Shej Aarthi – offered at Nights at 10:30.
Devotees feel gifted to attend the Aarthis. Devotees are allowed to attend the Aarthi, for the devotees a hall is provided to sit and offer the Aarthi song. After the Aarthi people visit Sai Baba normally but recently after Shej Aarthi due to rush issues devotees are diverted to the exit of the Mandir.
