The Baidyanath temple located in Deoghar is a place famous for devotion, it is a Jyothirling with a Shakthi Peeth. The temple has many rituals followed. The temple holds a unique ritual that is the Gathbandhan (Coalition). The Gathbandhan is done between the temples of Lord Shiva and the Temple of goddess Parvathi. In this ritual, a red coloured thread is tied at the shikras i.e, to the panch shuls of the respective Shiva and Parvathi temples.

Devotees flock to perform this ritual, the temple permits the devotees to perform this ritual with the help of a man who is behalf of the temple committee. The Gathbandhan ritual is mainly followed in the Hindu marriages and the same ritual is been accustomed in the temple of Baidyanath. It is believed that by doing this ritual the unmarried people would get married.
