Bharat Mandir Rishikesh History

Bharat Mandir Rishikesh is one of the ancient temples established in 12th Century dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The ideal point of this temple is the idol of the deity Lord Vishnu is carved out of a single black stone. This stone is known as the ammonite fossil locally known as saligramam. According to the legends, these kinds of fossils are found in only three sacred places, Tirumala Tirupati, Badrinath and in the Rishikesh Bharat Mandir. This old temple is been now renovated with concrete and marble. The legends also say that there is a hidden Shrimantra under the Gumbaj the temple roof. The idol of the deity is 6 feet carved out of single rock. The temple celebrates the annual carnival grandly with a great esteem. The temple has an old tree which is sacred; the tree is just opposite to the temple. The temple authority also runs a school and a trust.
