Bhavani Mandap History

Bhavani Mandap Kolhapur is a historical building situated near Mahalaxmi Temple. It used to be a royal palace of the Maharaja of Kolhapur and later used to be a darbar of the Chhatrapati Maharaja.

Bhavani Mandap is used as house offices of various court officials and used to be the center of many celebrations. Bhavani Mandap was the witness to the famous murder in the central courtyard.

Bhavani Mandap has a feeling of charm to it and typical architecture of the British Raj brings back the memories of the rich princely state Kolhapur used to be.

At Bhavani Mandap, we can find the life-size statue of Kolhapur’s most loved prince Shahu Maharaj. There is an underground tunnel leading to Bhavani Mandap from Panhala fort, which was built to allow an escape-route for warring Maratha soldiers.
