1877 The Poonjar Chief leased land to J.D.Munroe.
This land is known as Kannan Devan Anchannattu
1900 Nilgiri Wildlife Association was established to protect Tahr
and other animals
1928 The High range Game preservation Association was organized.
Started collecting Census.
1971 Eravikulam came under Forest Department control
1975 Declared as the Sanctuary to protect Nilgiri Tahr
1978 Declared as the National park with an area of 97 Sq.Km.
Stretching from Annamalai to Palani Hills

Commonly seen birds are Grey-breasted laughing thrush, Nilgiri flycatcher, Malabar Whistling Thrush, black bulbul, red vented bulbul, emerald dove, Nilgiri wood pigeon etc

This park is inhabited by Common leopard, Mongoose, Small Indian Civet, Sambar, Elephants, Indian gaur, Lion-tailed Macaque, Tigers, Nilgiri Tahr etc.

Best Time to visit: Nov-May.

Tourists inflow high during Nov, Dec, Jan, Apr and May months.

Forest Department Mini-Buses runs from Forest Checkpoint to the Park entrance. It is walking along the road to watch Nilgiri Tahr.

Safe and Pure Drinking water points available along the path.

During Peak season, Waiting time to board the bus will be around 1 – 1 hour 30 mins. To and Fro services provided by the Forest Department.
