India Gate of Delhi is the All India War Memorial, located along the Rajpath in New Delhi. It is the memorial to 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who were dead in World War I. Sir Edwin Lutyens designed this historical structure which is 42 meters tall. The India Gate of Delhi is regarded as one of the largest war memorials in India. This is the must-visit place for one on their visit to Delhi.
The place is dedicated to Indian and British soldiers who died during World War I and Anglo-Afghan War III. Over 13,300 servicemen’s names were inscribed on the surface of the monument. The foundation stone was laid in 1921 and the final building was completed in 1931 by Lord Irwin, the Indian Viceroy.
The premises of the Gate houses Amar Jawan Jyothi, which is placed underneath the archway. The Amar Jawan Jyothi as built-in 1971 symbolizes the Bangladesh Liberation War, the eternal, immortal soldiers of India.
Amar Jawan Jyothi
The Amar Jawan Jyothi was a holy place made of black marble, and a fire burning in it. This is the place constructed after the Indo-Pakistani War showing respect to all the soldiers who died in the Bangladesh Liberation War. The black cenotaph was placed on the top of the marble pedestal. The Amar Jawan is scripted in gold on all the 4 sides of the Cenotaph. The memorial is guarded by the soldiers of Indian Army, Air force and Indian Navy 24*7.
History of India Gate
The India Gate construction was started in 1921. This building was an initiative of the British to build the graves and the memorials for the Indian and British soldiers of the First World War. The foundation stone was laid down on February 10th of 1921 and was inaugurated on February 12th of 1931. The place is dedicated to all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I.

The best time to visit the place is from February to April and August to November.
