History of Old Delhi

Rashtrapati Bhavan is the house for the 1st citizen of India, the President also known as the President House. Besides being an important national building it is a perfect example of perfect architecture. The building is shaped- H by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Herbert Baker joined Sir Edwin Lutyens and has given a final shape to the building.

Previously the building is known as Viceroy’s House and is spread across 330 acres of land. The president’s residence comprises 340 rooms which include the President’s house, offices, guest rooms, and reception halls. The building has huge gardens including the Mughal Garden with large open spaces and residences of staff.

Laxminarayan Temple is also known as the Birla Mandir dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Laxminarayan in Delhi. This temple was built by Jugal Kishore Birla from 1933 and 1939. The temple also houses Lord Shiva, Krishna, and Buddha. The temple was opened by Mahatma Gandhi. It is the 1st largest Hindu temple built in Delhi. History

The temple was started building in 1933 by the Philanthropist and Industrialist Baldeo Das Birla and Jugal Kishore Birla of Birla Family and so this temple is also known as the Birla Mandir. Jat Maharaj Udaybhanu Singh laid the foundation stone. The temple was built under the guidance of Pandit
Vishwanath Shastri. After the completion of the temple, the yagna was performed by Swami Keshwa Nandji.  This temple is the 1st series of temples built by Birlas across many cities of India and are called as Birla Temple.

Laxminarayan Temple

Architecture

The temple is a 3 storied building built in the Nagara style Architecture. More than 100 skilled artisans from Benares involved in carving the icons of the temple. The highest shikhara was 160 feet high and the main temple faces the east. The icon of the temple was made of marble and was brought from Jaipur. Kota Stone from Agra, Makarana, Kota and Jaisalmer were used in the construction of the temple.

The main temple houses the shrines of Lord Narayana with his wife Goddess Laxmi. The temple also dedicated to small temples of Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesh, Lord Buddha.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is the place in Delhi. This place is previously the residence of Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. After her assassination, her residence is converted into the Museum. This museum displays all the memories, life history of the Lady. Indira Gandhi is called the Iron Lady of India. The place displays the hardships, achievements and the things used by her.

The place has a huge garden which was built recently to give the Sagas Strength and courage of Indira Gandhi, who ruled the Nation very actively at her time. The Museum houses the rare photography of Indira Gandhi’s childhood and Nehru- Gandhi family and also the Nationalist Movements.

The Museum is famous for the blood-stained saree of Indira Gandhi when she was assassinated by her 2 security guards.  The Museum also exhibits the house used at the time of her with everything covered with glass and the visitors are not allowed into the place where the things are displayed for the viewers and touch those. This Museum is now maintained by the Government and is well maintained. This is one of the best places to visit in Delhi tourism.
