Nahan Himachal Pradesh is the perfect gateway for nature lovers and is the hotspot for honeymoon. The place lies in the lofty Shivaliks range surrounded by the green fields, clean streets and serves as the best holiday destination.
The name of this hill station is named after Sage Nahan who used to live in this place. The town was announced by Raja Karan Prakash as the capital in 1621. As per legends the king of the place tried to kill the lion but was stopped by the Saint Baba Banwari Das said Nahar which means “Don’t Kill”.
The town we see now was dotted with lots of places like manmade lake, temples, and gardens.
Festivals and Fairs
Vaaman Dwadashi is the festival celebrated at the end of Monsoon. At this time 52 cult images of the local gods are placed in the temple of Jagannath.
Gugga Peer Fair is celebrated locally in respect of Gugga. The god is worshipped by both Hindus and Muslims. The god dedicated to this festival is Snake. Gugga is worshipped by Rajasthani’s. Gugga is also known as Gogaji. According to Hindus Gugga is known as Goga and Jahar Peer among Muslims.
The fair will be organized by Gram Panchayat 2 days before Dussehra and is known as Jamta Fair.
