Maharaja Ranjit Singh History

Ranjit Singh is the only King who raised the flag of Freedom as the East India Company occupied the whole country except Punjab. The King gained Lahore in 1799 and made as Capital and Amritsar in 1802 and titled it as the Spiritual Capital of Punjab. The Garden is laid out in 1818 on behalf of Shalimar Bagh of Lahore known as the Guru Ram Dass who is also known as the Ram Bagh.

The whole work of the Garden is done under the supervision of Faqir Azizuddin, Sardar Desa Singh Majithia, and Sardar Lahna Singh. The cost of the garden is approximately Rs 214000 Nanak Shahi and the Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh costs Rs 125000.

The museum was established formally by Sh. Jagjiwan Ram on 29th November 1977. The museum is famous for its priceless and rare collections of paintings, manuscripts, coins, weapons, and armors.

Tarn Taran Sahib Gurdwara

Overview

Tarn Taran Sahib Gurdwara was built by the Guru Arjun Dev the 5th Guru of Sikhs. This is the small town located 22 KMs away from Amritsar. The name Tarn Taran means “A boat that takes across the ocean of existence”. The building is built in Mughal Style of Architecture and is famous for having the biggest Sarovar.

The Gurdwara displays the amazing work of glass pieces that reflects and with the designs on the inner walls and the ceiling. The upper portion is completely covered with the gold sheets. The main hall of the building is covered with gold with the marble inlay.

Durgiana Temple

Overview

Harike Wetland

Overview

Harike Wetland is the bird sanctuary which is spread over 3 districts of Firozepur, Amritsar and Kapurthala in Punjab. The Wetlands, with the lake is found in 1953 when the Harike Barrage was constructed on the meeting point of Rivers Beas and Sutlej.

The Wetland is an ideal place for nature lovers and bird lovers as the Sanctuary houses number of migratory birds in winter and during that time one can see around 20,000 ducks and about 200 bird species every winter.
