Shani Shingnapur Temple

The Shani Shingnapur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shaneshwar or Lord Shanidev. He is regarded as the personification of planet Saturn is preached over here.

Located at a distance of 65 km from Shirdi in the Ahmednagar district. The entire village around the Temple has no doors at their residences. The people residing by the temple have a deep belief in the almighty Lord Shanidev and regard him as their sole protector. The village has not even been reported for theft or robbery till date.

The idol of Lord Shanidev is placed inside the Shani Shingnapur Temple and is made up of large black stone. Devotees are allowed to enter the temple premises after taking a bath. Only males are permitted inside the temple.

Prayers are offered by the devotees in traditional dhotis at the Temple. More than 10 lakh people visit this temple on the occasions of Shani Amavasya and Shani Jayanti. You cannot get Liquor, gambling or non-vegetarian food in this village.

The Peepal trees in the village have hanging roots (like Banyan tree), which is unusual. People offer oil (like flowers to other gods) to the shrine of Shani Shingnapur temple. Some people offer 101 oil boxes or 1 quintal oil and few people even offer an entire tanker of oil to God Shani.

Shri Shaneshchar Jayanti is God Shani’s birthday.

From ‘Chaitra Shuddha Dashami’ to ‘Chaitra Vadya Pratipada’, the priests continuously, chant God’s name and perform the ‘Granthraj Dnyaneshwari Parayan’.

From 1991, on Aashadi Ekadashi trustees and devotees take a walk, from Shanishingnapur to Pandarpur, on a great fanfare.

During Ekanaathi Shashti, all the trustees and devotees participate in taking Shaneshwar Palki on foot, with great fanfare, from Shanishingnapur to Paithan.

Strict dress code is followed, Dotar / Dhoti only to enter into the temple.
No need to carry these clothes with you as they are available on a returnable basis in the shops.
