Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra is named after the poet and reformer of Srimanta Sankardev. It is a cultural institute in Panjabari, Guwahati. It is established with the aim to promote the culture, tradition and art of Assam. The Kalakshetra was built in 1990 that showcases the artistic excellence of the North- East which displays the old legacy.

The kshetra aims to offer spiritual and cultural upliftment of the Assam people. The place consists of a museum, library, children’s park and an art gallery. The structures and buildings present Assamese design standards.

Inside the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra

The Museum, Open Theater, Artists’ Village, Sahitya Bhavan Library, Lalit Kala Bhawan and a Heritage park are the places in Kalakshetra.

The Museum is the main attraction of the Kalakshetra and was built in 1990. The museum houses various conventional ethos and cultural objects of ethnic importance.

The place has a huge open theatre which comprises of 2000 guests where the kshetra organises cultural and spiritual programs, dramas, traditional and flock dances.

The artists’ village exhibits the traditional Assamese village.

The Sahitya Bhavan Library consists of large varieties of literary books, manuscripts and artefacts.

Lalit Kala Bhawan showcases the art and culture.

Heritage Park gives you a pleasure of rest and relax.
