Jyotirlinga (Jyothi-Radiance; Linga – Lord Shiva Image), Lord Shiva manifested himself as 12 jyotirlingas in different areas for the sake of devotees. All these lingas are “Swauambhu” in origin, the lingams which are self-manifested. Among the 12 Jyotirling, the Mahakaleshwar Jyotir Linga located in Ujjain is regarded as most powerful abodes of Lord Mahadev. 1. SOMNATH JYOTIRLING – GIR SOMNATH, GUJARAT:

Somnath Jyotirling located in Gujarat, is known to be first originatedJyotirling among the 12 Jyotirlings. The somnath temple resembles the Chalukya style of architecture. Apparently Lord Shiva appeared as a sizzling column of light in this shrine. According to the Shiva puranas, Moon married 27 daughters of Prajapathi Dakshin. Among the 27 wives, Moon more attention to Rohini by neglecting other, which made Daksh aggressive and cursed Moon that he will lose his beauty and lustre. Moon worshiped Lord Shiva to get rid of the curse. Lord Shiva granted Moon’s wish and as a penance Moon himself constructed this temple dedicating to Lord Shiva.

2. NAGESHWAR JYOTIRLING – DAARUKAVANAM , GUJARAT:

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, resided on the coast of the Saurashtra in Gujarat. The statue deity in this temple located underground in the sanctum, in sitting position which is about 25 m tall. In the ancient times Nageshwar used to be known as Darukavana, is an ancient name of the forest.
