Overview:

Akal Takht literally means “Throne of the Immortal”. In other words, Akal means “Timeless One” and Takht means the “Throne” and is one of the 5 takhts of Sikhs. Punjab houses 3 takhts and the other two are in Bihar and Maharashtra. Akal Takht in Amritsar, Takht Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib and Takht Damdama Sahid in Talwandi Sabo. The others are Takht Patna Sahib in Bihar and Maharashtra, Nanded houses Takht Hazur Sahib.

Akal Takht was built in 1995 and the present it ages 24 years. The Akal Takht was built by Guru Hargobind for Justice and temporal issues. Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji were the 2 persons who built the platform with their own hand without any artist or the person involved in building. The top seat of overall authority was the collective body of Sikhs and is the highest spokesman of Sikhs.

Akal Takht in Amritsar History

The Akal Takht is an attractive building the is located in front of the Golden Temple of Amritsar. The building is the symbolization of political fortification against Mughal Emperors in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Architecture:

The old architecture is constructed by Guru Hargobind. The present architecture of the building is a 5-storey modern structure done with marble and a golden leaf dome. The structure is much elaborated with marble pillars with a semi-circular platform with a courtyard, air house and a Durbar Hall.

Dress Code:

No restriction for Dresses both for male and female but one thing is compulsory i.e., to cover the head with a cloth.

Photography:

The camera is allowed inside the building but there are some places inside the building where photos are not to be taken.

Mobiles are not allowed inside the place. Only cameras are allowed to be taken inside. There are lockers to keep your mobiles.
