Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the first union territory of India, which is the home for 572 islands out of which only 37 Islands are habituated by the people and only a few are open for tourism.

The documented proves Andaman and Nicobar Island in 2nd Century and 7th Century by the Greek Astronomer Ptolemy and Xuan Zang the Chinese Monk on his 17 years journey through India.

History of Andaman and Nicobar Islands stated that the tribal population occupied in the year 1789. Soon after the Tribals vacated East India Company occupied for the settlement in this Island.

The people over there widely speak Bengali followed by Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. Hindi is the trade language in the Andaman Islands.

The Indian Nation does not require permits or the Passport to visit the Island as this is the part of Indian Union Territories. Initially, the Island was used by the Cholas dynasty but later it became the Danish Colony and named as the Danish East India Company. Due to the continuous effect on the Island mainly Malaria,  the British set up their colony in Port Blair and purchased the Island from Danish and finally British left India and the Island became the part of India in 1950 and it is declared as the Union Territory in 1956.

The Andaman and Nicobar Island is the largest island system that has 306 Islands and 206 rocks and islets. The Island offers 6400 species of fauna which include both terrestrial and marine and 3000 species of flora which include woody climber, timber, mangroves, palms etc. The Island is home for at least 240 types of birds.

How to Reach the Islands:

One can reach the Island one by two means of transportation. One is by air and the other is by water.

By Air – The easiest way to reach the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is through flights. The Island houses its own airport in the capital city of Port Blair. The Port Blair has good connectivity from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore. From Delhi and Mumbai, one can reach in 5 Hours and from Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore can reach by 2 Hours.

By Water – Every month only limited number of ships like 3-4 is in route to Port Blair and only one sail is offered from Vishakhapatnam port. The entire journey to reach the Island in the ship takes 50-60 Hours that is 2 and a half days. The ship stops for 3-4 days at Port Blair and then return to the respective ports.
