Samdruptse is situated at an altitude of 7000 Ft. The “wish-fulfilling hill” is just 7Km from Namchi. This epic hill is with a giant statue of the Guru Padmasambhava also known as the Guru Rinpoche. The sponsor saint of Sikkim has been showering its blessings since 1200 years.

The statue is 45m tall, overlooking the whole city. The statue is silded with gold that glitters when the sunlight falls over it.

The repository within the premises of the statue has a profound collection of historical photographs of Sikkim also including the fading photos of Mahatma Gandhi, come as a delight for the history buffs. 

The foundation stone for the statue was laid by Dalai Lama in the year 1997.

This is one of the highest lakes in the world which is situated at an altitude of 5330 m. The lake is surrounded by the snow-covered mountains and is one of the sources of River Teesta.

The visit to this lake requires a special army permits. This is still one of the most astoundingly beautiful lake that tops the list of Sikkim’s visit.

The lake explores the beauty of Chopta valley, Thangu Valley and Gurudongmar Lake on its way.

Permits:

One needs special permits, from Army and Sikkim police/administration to visit the Cholamu Lake.

It is difficult to get permission to visit this Tso Lhamo Lake and it is advisable not to visit this place in monsoons or winters. If you are on a family trip avoid visiting Cholamu Lake and visit the Gurudongmar Lake instead. However, if weather permits, and you get a permit easily then opt for Cholamu Lake. Since mostly no travel agencies risk their vehicles and driver in this risky terrain you can trek up to this stunning lake.

Jelep Pass also known as Jelep La lies at an elevation of about 14390 Ft above the Sea level, in Dongkya Range of Eastern Himalayas. The road includes lots of hairpin turns. Most of the time during the year, it is not accessible to the civilians.

Jelep La is a Tibetan name which means “The Lovely Level Pass”, hence this place is regarded as one of the best places to visit in Sikkim. It is the easiest and most level of all the passes between Tibet and Sikkim. The route is scenic with forests of rhododendrons blooming in spring. Numerous junctures are scattered in the surrounding areas.

In the early phase of 1975, Sikkim became a part of India. Again with the recent development in the relation between India and China, there are possibilities in reopening the Jelep La Pass.
