Dakshinachitra Museum History

DakshinaChitra Museum is was established in the year 1996, this ancient museum is maintained by the Madras Craft Foundation. This museum is one of the greatest architecture of Tamil Nadu which is stretched to an area of 10 acres land.  This beautiful museum is dedicated to the South Indian Heritage and South Indian Culture. DakshinaChitra means a picture of art, the motive of this museum is to preserve the culture and heritage of South India. The architecture was planned by Laurie Baker. The museum house totally 18 heritage houses showcasing the culture of various states of South India. The museum allows the visitors to take the tour of the museum along with the guide to take a look at various exhibits, themes, arts and crafts and many more. The museum also has the feature of the open-air theatre, also some crafts shop where one can purchase the locally made crafts. Also one can gain the knowledge by the programs, orientation films and workshops.
