Khecheopalri Lake is situated in the village Khecheopalri of West Sikkim, India. Khecheopalri Lake also known as Wish-fulfilling Lake, and it is originally known as Kha-Chot-Palri ( Mountain of Blissful Heaven). This Lake is considered very sacred by Sikkimese. The Khecheopalri Lake is about 35 kilometres away from Pelling and 140 kilometres away from Gangtok.

This Lake is sacred and also famous for tourism spot, the shape of the Khecheopalri Lake resembles the shape of a footprint. The legends say that that footprint is the goddess ” Tara “. At the entrance of the holy Lake, there is a holy shrine with huge prayer wheels. Also beside the lake, there is a Stupa leading the way of the Khecheopalri Lake.

The way to the Lake is covered with the colourful prayer flags also there is a footbridge leading to the holy lake, the footbridge way shows numerous prayer wheels on either side. It is a belief that the one who seeks for wishing should go to the lake by rotating all these prayer wheels all the way to the holy lake.

This lake is not only famous for Buddhists also famous for Hindus, the Lake is present in the midst of the forest surrounded by many sacred hills. Before entering the way of lake devotees ring the sacred bell. The Khecheopalri Lake is about 9.2 acres filled with pure water and full of fishes. The Khecheopalri Lake is considered as sacred as it is believed that the lake is composed of the purest water.

The speciality of this lake is no leaves are not allowed to float on the surface of the lake as soon as the leaves fall the bird picks them up. The lake is permitted to perform all the rituals, also every year festivals are celebrated in Maghe purne (March/April) and the other festival known as Chho-Tsho, celebrated in the month of October after the cardamom is harvested people offer food and other stuff to the Lake. It is believed that Lord Shiva sits in meditation in the lap of the lake.
