The dancing peacocks, trumping tuskers, jumping deer’s, roaring tigers, singing birds and the chilling climate is a thrill to the soul of the Assam Manas National Park. Earlier the Gauripur Raja and Cooch Behar royal used this national park as a hunting reserve later in 1905 Manas proposed it as Reserve forest. And in 1928 it was announced as a Game Sanctuary.

It is an area about 360 square kilometres. It was declared as Tiger reserve (1973) contributing to a total area of 2837 square kilometres. It is famous for its biosphere reserve, and elephant reserves…etc. The name manas is derived from a Hindu deity the snake “Manasa” also the name derived from the Manas river that passes through the park.

The Manas National park shows about six rhinos and eleven elephants the Flora of the national park is filled with the Burma monsoon forests which are located between the Indo Gangetic and Indo Malayan regions. The manas shows the vegetation such as Assam Valley semi-evergreen alluvial grasslands, East Himalayan mixed moist and dry deciduous forests, Low alluvial savanna woodland and Sub- Himalayan light alluvial semi-evergreen forests.

The Manas resides about 7 amphibians, 42 reptile species, 60 mammal species, and 500 bird species also wild water buffalos..etc.The Assam Roofed Turtle, Pygmy Hog, Hispid Hare, Golden Langur and Roofed Turtle.
