The Omkareshwar temple, located in Mandhata, Madhya Pradesh  (INDIA) is a famous jyotirlinga site, hence it is often been crowded with many devotees. Omkareshwar temple is also known as Mandhata or Shivapuri, the mountain is named as Madhata in honour to the king Madhata. The Shivpuri is about 78 Kms from Indore, the island of the Omkareshwar resembles the shape of “OM”, the shape(OM) of the island originated from the two mountains which are lofty in shape which is been divided by the valleys.

The Hindu mythology says that the sound of the OM gave birth to the existence of life and also responsible for the origination of the Universe. Omkareshwar temple is considered as the Second Jyotirlingam of (M.P) Madhya  Pradesh after Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain. In the months of October and November, the view of Omkareshwa temple if like feasting your eyes. The Omkareshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva shows the Swayamboo  Shiva Lingam. The Omkaleshwar temple is known as Mamleshwar temple, anciently Mamleshwar is known as Amareshwar temple.

  • The ancient history says that the temple Omkaleshwar was built in a stone, the temple is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh (India).
  • The Omkareshwar temple resides near the sacred river the Narmada, the temple situated on the island Mandatha is about 2.6 km2 (2,600,000 m2) in the area and can be reached by sailing.
  • According to the legends, Lord Shiva appeared in two parts that are half as Omkaleshwar and the other half as Amaleshwara or Amaleshwar.
  • The origin of the name of Omkaleshwar established by the appearance of the mud mound (Shiva Lingam) in the form of “OM”.
