Tsomgo Lake Route Info, Timings

Tsomgo ( Changu Lake ) or Tshangu is situated in East Sikkim, India. It is located about 38 kilometres away from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim (on the way to Nathula or Nathu la). In Bhutia language “Tso” means lake and “Mgo” means Head. This glacial lake is actually sacred and conceived by the local people. The holy lake is filled with water from the melting snow of the mountains surrounding the lake.

The Tsomgo, the glacial lake is situated at an altitude of 3780 meters and extended to a length of one kilometre and 0.5 kilometres breadth approximately. As the lake is sacred provided with prayer wheels also surrounded by the colourful prayer flags fluttering around the lake.

The glacial lake is filled with visitors and covered with snow also visitors can enjoy the snow by hiring gumboots, gloves and jackets. Also one can hop on yak to go for a yak ride. The Tsomgo lake situated at the Indo – China border gives an image of Switzerland in India and there are the beautiful sites to visit at Tsomgo lake.

Yak Riding :

          The magnificent Tsomgo Lake offers the fun riding that is Yak riding. The yaks are usually found at higher altitudes ranging from 9000 feet, Yaks are brought to a range of about 7000 feet. The colourfully mounted Yaks and their horns covered with woollen knits adds extra attraction to the Yaks.

The riders can hop on the Yaks and cover the Tsomgo Lake scenic View by having fun with Yak ride. The Yak ride acts as an alternative to other rides(by vehicles). As the Yaks are capable of moving at higher altitudes and on any steep way.

One (riders) can get a Yak ride on spot payment and can enjoy their Yak ride on the beautiful snowy way. The Yaks takes you on a ride with various ranges of prices at different location points. The Yak rides are facilitated from the bridge to the Kemthang spot. The visitors can also preserve their fun ride with photography by affording just of rupees ten.
