The Basistha or Vasistha temple is an ashram of the Maharishi Vashishta of Guwahati, Assam. The temple is located in the Southeast area of the capital city of Assam which was built by the Ahom King Rajeshwarsingh in the year of 1764.

The ashram is about 10 to 12 kilometres away from the capital city of Assam (Guwahati) near the outskirts of Garbhanga forest also known as the butterfly reserve. The Garbhanga forest consists of satisfactory level of tuskers (elephant) population. The ashram shows a shimmering waterfall. The Vashishta ashram is composed of a temple and a cave.

The history says that the Maharishi Vashistha meditated here and last his breadth. The cave is located about 5 kilometres inside the ashram.The ashram shows a temple located on the mountain streams, these streams were originated from the Meghalaya hills which becomes river Vashishta.

The ashram shows three distinct temples which are dedicated to three different deities Lord Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara, Ganesha temple and the inner sanctum (garbagriha) dedicated to Maharishi Vashishta.
