The Victoria Memorial (Kolkata) of West Bengal (India) is a huge construction made up of White Makrana marble. It was built in the year 1906 to 1921, in the memory of Queen Victoria (1819 to 1901) is present a great museum in Kolkata maintained by the Ministry of Culture.
During 1901 January (Queen Victoria) expiry Viceroy of India, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston and George Curzon suggested for the creation of a memorial monument dedicated to the queen. About 1,05,00,000 rupees took for the construction of the museum. It was opened to the public in the year 1921.
The design of the Victoria Memorial Hall is in style of the Indo-Saracenic revivalist which is a combination of the Mughal and British fashions. The building is about 103 meters by 69 meters and rises to a height of 56 meters. The garden of the Hall was the composition of Redesdale and David Prain architect style. The dome of the Hall exhibits the Image of the Angel of Victory also including the North Porch are Motherhood, prudence and learning, justice and charity…etc.
As Taj Mahal is the memorial of Mumtaz Begum by Shah Jahan which was a great beauty with great history similarly the Victoria Memorial Hall dedicated to Queen Victoria.
