Thyagaraja Temple History

Tiruvarur Temple also known as Thyagaraja Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped as Lord Thyagaraja Swamy in the Lingam form. Daily rituals are offered to the deity. This huge temple occupies an area of about 33 acres of land, which is a giant complex. This temple houses the maximum number of shrines within the temple complex. The legs of the Lord is displayed on special occasions like Panguniuthram festival and on Thiruvathirai festival and on the rest of the days covered with flowers. The Utsav Murthy is taken out of the temple during the procession on Car also known as Chariot festival. The temple is popularly known for the dance procession known as Ajapa Thanam, it is the dance without chanting which is performed during the Chariot festival.
