The Ugratara Temple of Guwahati is one of the shakti peet of maata Sati. The Ugratatara temple doesn’t have any goddess idol inside the sanctorum but there is a pit full of water. This pit full of water is considered as holy water and worshipped as goddess Ugratara. It is said that the right eye of maata Sati was situated here hence the Ugratara temple is considered as one of the Shakthi peet of India. the temple surroundings consist of a pond which shows a population of ducks which adds extra beauty to the temple.
VIRTUE :
The Ugratara temple doesn’t show any idol of goddess unlike like other temples. Instead of an idol there exist a pit full of water. The Ugratara temple is known as the temple which exhibits the Ugra roop of the goddess. The temple is composed of Ganesh temple the Vignaharatha, devotees offer ganti (bells) as offering to Lord Ganesha.
To maata Ugratara devotees offer flesh, flowers, betel leaves..etc. There a yearly celebration of Ugratara Mela which is celebrated beautifully by the devotees. During this festive season people sacrifice buffalos, ducks, goats..etc as it is said that maata loves flesh. The devotees have a ritual to place the betel leaves and flowers to maata Ughratara if the maata sheds betel leaves it means their (devotees) pooja is been accepted or completed if not, the pooja is incomplete and the devotees wait for the betel leaves to be shed.
Another belief that if the flowers offered to maata Ugratara fallen then it means the wishes of the devotees are full filled if not their wishes are not granted there are so many different customs and rituals celebrated by the devotees of Ugratara.

During the Mela, a huge crowd gathers at the Ugratara temple and devotees sacrifice buffalos to the goddess.

Three days celebration conducted by the state government sector at Mahishi in Sahars in dedication to goddess Ugratara.

The Ugratara homam is very auspicious among the devotees it is believed that whoever does Homam to goddess Ugratara gains the enormous level of happiness and get rid of sorrow.

The Ugra roop of goddess Sathi exists in the Ugratara Shakthi peet o Guwahati. The Durga pooja is been very widely celebrated during October to please Mahishasuramardini to bring peace into the earth.

During October the Navratri is celebrated for 16 days, devotees offer Paan (Betel leaf) to goddess, it is believed that Matha Ugratara accepts the prayers of devotees by shedding these betel leaves, if the betel leaves or not shed it means that the pooja is not complete. Devotees also offer flowers to Mother goddess Ugratara and ask for wishes the priest and the devotees say that if the goddess idol sheds the flowers wishes will be definitely be fulfilled similarly if flowers don’t shed means those wishes don’t come true.
