Vembanad lake History:

The Vembanad lake is also known as Vembanad Kayal, Vembanad Kol. This is the second largest lake of Kerala. This lake is called with different names at different locations. It is called as Kochi lake in Kochi, Vembanadu Lake in Kottayam and Punnamada lake in Kuttanad. There are many islands present in  Kochi lake portion. At the Willingdon Island and Vallarpadam Island, the Kochi Port is been constructed.

The lake has many attractions like the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is situated east coast of the lake. It is the best spot for the Kerala Backwaters. Also, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted at a portion of this massive lake. Apart from this, the lake resides hundreds of migratory birds. This is one of the heavenly destination situated in Kerala.
