Masani Amman Temple in Coimbatore is the temple dedicated to Shakti Devi also known as the Masani Devi in North India. The temple is located in Anaimalai, Pollachi, Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu. The temple is situated at the point where the Aliyar River and Uppar Stream meet. Devotee’s belief that this place has the magical power of curing illness. The idol in the temple is 15 feet long and is set up in the lying position.

Legend behind the temple

The ruler of Annamalai, Nannur owned lands with the Mango farms and the farmlands. The ruler announced that if anyone enters his farmlands and the mango farms without the permission of his members would be punished severally. By not knowing this issue a lady entered into the mango field to have some mangoes. Immediately the lady was caught by the ruler’s people and took her to him. The king sentenced the lady to death without listening to the lady and the villagers who told that the lady was unaware of the rule. The ruler didn’t listen to their words and sentenced her to death. The villagers fought with Nannur and killed him. In the gratitude of the Lady villagers built the temple and named the shrine as Masani Devi, Masani means Graveyard.

The Goddess Masani Amman is also known as the Arulmigu Masani Amman. The idol is of length 15 feet. The goddess is regarded as the source of infinite energy. Pregnant women and girls suffering from puberty issues visit the temple to overcome their problems. The temple is known for the power to cure illness and resolve the issues related to one ’s self.

Significance

On the visit of Lord Rama to the place to rescue his wife Goddess Sita and regarded the shrine as the Parashakthi. The place is regarded as the power to improve the physical strength of the girls and women. The temple is famous for the woman who is willing to have a child but not able to conceive, the lady has to take the Prasadam and tie the black thread around the wrist. Devotees also offer the chilies paste to the idol to know and get recover the stolen items. Some also write one’s issues on a piece of paper and tie it to the hand of the goddess and believed that the issues will be solved within 90 days.
