The famous sun temple situated in Arasavalli village which is at a distance of about 1 km from east of Srikakulam. It is one of the ancient Sun god temples in India. According to Padmapuranam sage, Kasyapa installed the idol of Surya Bhagawan for the welfare of mankind. therefore thSuryaya is of Kasyapasa Gotra. As per the folklore, Devendra (God of heaven) found the Idol in Pushkarini and the existing idol of the sun god.

Once lord Devendra, Ignoring the words of Dwarapalaka Nandi, attempted to force his entry for darshan of Sri Rudhrakoteswara Swamy at untimely hours when lord shiva was along with his consort. The Dwarapalaka Nandi in discharge of his duties threw away the intruder. The injured Indra fell down and in his unconscious state indra dreamt that he would be relieved if the had built a temple and install an idol of the sun god. Following his dream, he recovered the beautiful idol of sun god with his three consorts usha, chaya and padmini. At the base of the idols are the figures of Mathara and pingala the dwarapalakas and the high up are two divine saints, sankara and sanadana holding “chatrams”. The sun god is depicted as riding over a chariot drawn by Aruna, the charioteer.

1.it takes in architectural skills of viswakarma Brahmins or maharanas of Orissa.

2.in the earlier parts of the day the temple is built to direct the sun’s light to fall on the feet of the lord  surya showing his importance and powers.

3. Sunrays touch Lord Surya Bhagawan holy feet during Uttarayanam and Dakshinayanam.

1.surya namaskarams : This seva perform every Sunday morning at 6:00am to 12:00pm.

2.thiruveedhi seva       : This seva perform every Sunday evening at 6:00pm.

3.ksheeranna bogam   : this seva perform every Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm.

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Amadalavalasa (Srikakulam road) which is 16 km away.

By Bus: Temple is easily reachable from Visakhapatnam and Amadalavalasa stations.
