The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary of Assam is an isolated area of evergreen forest. The Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is the only wildlife sanctuary which houses 7 different species of Primates. The Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is extended to the foothills of Patkai mountain range. The Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is surrounded by small towns and tea gardens.

The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary was named after the dominant tree species known as ” Dipterocarpus or Hollong”. Presently the forest is surrounded by tea gardens and villages. The Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary earlier was a connecting link between various forests which points towards the state of Nagaland. Though the area of Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary was about 206 ha it was reduced due to de-reservation of the forest reserve. As the Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is surrounded by many tea gardens and villages, the people of the nearby villages stretched to an extent, due to which the area around the Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary was effected. These are the various factors which made the forest and the reserve as isolated divisions.

And a variety of evergreen shrubs and herbs are extended all over the Gibbon wildlife sanctuary. Every year hundreds of people visit this sanctuary to have fun with the gibbons and to feel the pleasant greenery of the sanctuary.
