Nageshvara Jyotirlinga is a popular temple of Lord Shiva near to Dwaraka. The ancient history says that Lord Krishna used to worship & perform Rudrabishekam to Lord Shiva.The phrase Daarukaavane Naagesham refers to Nageshwar. It (shloka) is also a part of the controversy of the temple, still there is debate on the actual location of the forest of Darukavana, hence identifying & search of Jyothirlinga is not a piece of cake. Day to day Nageshwara Jyotirlinga temple is developing, the Pond containing some big tortoise beside the temple adds the extra essence of beauty to it.

- The naming of Darukavanam & establishment of Nageshwar gives most popular story regarding Nageshwar.
- The ancient philosophical research says that a demon named “Daruka” lived in the forest.
- The Daruka was offered a boon from Parvathi, he(demon) became arrogant & stubborn.
- The demon started destruction, even captured Supriya. She was the great devotee of Lord Shiva.
- Supriya used to wear Bhasma and offered pooja with a lot of dedication to Lord Shiva.
- By her unconditional trust & devotion, she made Lord Shiva to visit her. It was then got established as Jyothirlinga.
- Lord Shiva defeated the demons then the forest became free of demons & became famous as “Darukavanam” & linga came to be known as “Naganath”.
- The stories also say that Bhima (brother of Pandavas) saw a river of milk & cream, Bhima along with his brothers found a Swayambu (self- manifested Lingam) in the middle of the river.
- This is the exact place where Nageshwar temple was built.
