The Jagdish temple located in Udaipur of Rajasthan is dedicated to Lord Lakshmi Narayana. It was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651 A.D. The Jagdish temple is located inside the city complex of Udaipur . The temple is constructed in Indo – Aryan style of architecture. The temple is about three storied temple which posses many beautifully carved pillars, walls…etc.
The history of this magnificent temple says it took about one and half million rupees for its construction in those days. The shikra of the temple rises up to seventy nine feet high touching the sky line of Udaipur. The devotees says this temple is assumed as the largest and magnificent Vishnu temple of North India.
The temple starts with a attractive way of welcoming with two giant elephants on either side of the entrance. The temple shows Various hindu dieties namely Sri Danirai Maharaj, god Surya , god Ganesha , god (vahan of vishnu) Sri Garuda Maharaj, a rare view of god shiva along with goddess parvathi in GowriShankar avtar , Maa Mahalakshmi and goddess Durga are been invoked inside the temple.
The temple shows about three floor building in which the first and the second floors are been heavily constructed by fifty pillars , the temple architecture is done by following the Vastushastra. There are about 32 steps to the main shrine of the temple.
A variety of festivals with a essence of different rituals are been celebrated witrh different shringar. Ekadashi is regarded as one of the famous festive among the vishnu temples and devotees. A variety of avtars can be only seen in the Vishnu temples in different seasons, different festivals…etc.
The Rath yatra of Lord Jagadish is been widely celebrated the people throughout the country and world comes to have a look of the rath yaatra. The Lord is taken in the rath to a extent where people can feast their eyes by watching the Lord on the spectacularly decorated Rath (vahan).
