About Dilwara Temple Mount Abu

Dilwara Temple is one of the most famous temples in India and also across the world as it is the finest Jain temples known for its outstanding architecture and marble stone carvings. The temple is located at the foothills of the Aravalli Hills of Mount Abu in Rajasthan.

History of Dilwara Temple

The temple is constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries that is designed by Vastupal Tejpal and constructed by Vimal Shah. This temple is felt like the superior for the Taj Mahal as the place is known for the architecture and the usage of the white Marble. From outside the temple is the basic but every cloud is silver-lined. The inner temple showcases the extraordinary work of human craftsmanship for its best.

Dilwara temple is the famous Jain temple across the world. The temple is surrounded by the lush green hill that gives the devotees a pleasant feel. The temple has 5 temples within the complex that are devoted to Jain Tirthankaras. The temples are constructed in the olden days when there is no transportation available in that area. The roads are available at the height of more than 1200 meters. The huge blocks of Marble stones are used to be shifted to the area from Arasuri Hills at Ambaji to this place on Elephant back.

The 5 temples in the Dilwara Temple are

1. Shri Mahaveer Swami Temple

This temple is constructed in 1582 and is dedicated to Lord Mahaveer (24th Saint of Jain). This is the small temple compared to the other 4 temples.

2. Shri Parshav Nath Temple (or) Khartar Vasahi Temple

This temple was built by the Mandika Clan in-between 1458 to 1459 AD and is the tallest shrine among the temples in Dilwara with 4 big mandapas.

3. Shri Adi Nath Temple (or) Vimal Vasahi Temple

The Minister of Solanika Ruler of Gujarat, Vimal Shah in 1031 AD. This is the oldest of all the temples in Dilwara and is dedicated to Shri Adinath Ji. The internal dome of the temple is decorated with the flowers and the petals, and carving works of female figures playing the musical instruments.

4. Peethalhar Temple (or) Shri Rishabdaoji Temple

The statues in this temple are built with Pittal the brass metal so it is called the Peethalhar Temple. This is built by Bhima Shah.

5. Luna Vasahi Temple (or) Shri Nemi Nath Ji Temple

Tejpal and Vastupal built this temple in 1230 AD dedicated to the 22nd Saint of Jain. This temple consists of a hall where 360 tiny idols of Jain saints are places. All the idols are carved with the white marble and in middle Shri Neminath Ji carved with the black marble.

Timings of the Temple

The temple will be open from morning 6:00 AM but till noon the tourists are not allowed and are permitted only for the Jain devotees. From 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM tourists are allowed to have darshan.

Entry Fee inside the temple

The entrance is free for everyone who visits the temple complex.

Dress Code to follow

Dress restriction for the devotees is not strict but traditional wear is preferred.

How to Reach

The distance from Mount Abu to the temple is 3 km and one can reach by cab within 10 minutes.
