Uppiliappan Temple History
Uppiliappan Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu also known as Thiruvinnagar temple of Lord Venkatachalapathy. This beautiful temple is located near Thirunageswaram which resides on the outskirts of Kumbakonam. This temple is 60th Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. According to the legends Lord Vishnu appeared as Uppiliappan and goddess Lakshmi consort of Lord Vishnu appeared as Bhoomadevi. The five-tiered rajagopuram stands elegantly saluting the Sun god. The temple looks magnificently beautiful during the festivals and special occasions. The temple atmosphere emits the devotional vibes all around the temple. Devotees flock to the temple to gain darshan and to seek blessings from the Lord.
This temple of Lord Vishnu is also known as the South Tirupati. The temple entrance has gigantic elephants welcoming the devotees. The temple becomes crowdy during Saturdays. Lord Vishnu gives darshan to the devotees in the sleeping posture. The charm of the Lord is speechless and totally mesmerising.The temple has some miracles, it is said that one can not sense the taste of salt inside the temple but same can be sensed outside the temple. According to the Legend, Lord Vishnu takes Prasad or food without salt. hence the Lord is named as Uppiliappan which literally means Lord without Salt. Whatever the reason is but the temple symbolizes the heaven on this Earth.
