History of Enchey Monastery
Enchey Monastery means “The Solitary Temple” which is a holy temple of Buddhist. The temple is surrounded by the magnificent natural beauty of tall pine trees, the exhilarating whiff of flower-bedecked meadows and the scenic view of Kanchenjunga Hills. Enchey Monastery is approximately 200 years old and is located 3 km northeast of Gangtok.
The location was blessed by Lama Drupthob Karpo, a renowned exponent of the Sanskrit Literature art in Buddhism with flying powers. He spent many years learning rituals under the learned Lamas and held a post of Chinyer or General Manager in the monastic administration.
Enchey Monastery Architecture
The Monastery follows a unique architecture which is an artistic adaptation of Gyanak Riwo Tse-Nga or the holy mountain with five peaks in China, which is the spiritual place of Jampalyang. The Entrance to the main temple depicts the King of 4-cardinal direction that protects the monastery and the universe. There are other buildings here for junior monks. There is a shrine where even the sick can come and offer their prayers. The monastery follows the Nyingma Order of Buddhism.

Chaam dance performed on the 28th and 29th day of the Buddhist calendar year which usually falls in December.
